About The Run

Richard Donovan, an ultramarathon runner from Ireland, will attempt to run a distance of close to 3,200 miles from San Francisco to New York during the summer of 2015.

The 'Trans North America Run' from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean will encompass 12 states: California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York.

Designed by Dr Heather Carr, a marathon runner from Minnesota, it is a challenging but scenic route that includes major Parks, Mountains, Rivers, Deserts, Plains and Cities. Richard can expect temperatures of 100+ Degrees Fahrenheit and altitudes up to 12,000 ft. as well as the possibility of encountering snakes, bears and other interesting wildlife.

The Trans North America will raise much needed funds for Alvin Matthews, a runner from California who was paralysed in an accident in 2014.  It will also be ideal preparation for an attempt by Richard to run across Antarctica at a future date.

Money raised for Alvin will go towards ongoing medical bills, rewalk bionic legs, a custom wheelchair and renovations to his home to make it wheelchair friendly.

Every donation of $500 will be eligible for a draw for an all expenses paid trip the 2016 North Pole Marathon. Donations of any amount whatsoever will be entered for draws for two opportunities to win a trip to the 2016 Volcano Marathon. Please click on http://www.gofundme.com/y4fsgc to donate.

Richard will be accompanied by a support car and driver throughout the run in order to obtain drinks and food at various intervals each day. His brother Paul, a two-time Olympian, will be the principal support driver and will coordinate support personnel at other times.
